Annotation

Rapid changes in the Arctic climate system not only profoundly alter terrestrial and marine environments and disrupt regional ecological balance, but also exert influences on weather and climate across the Northern Hemisphere and the globe via atmospheric teleconnections, closely linking to human living conditions and sustainable well-being. Nevertheless, substantial knowledge gaps and scientific controversies remain regarding how Arctic anomalous signals propagate globally through ocean-sea ice-atmosphere-land interactions, and subsequently induce and amplify compound extreme events including heatwaves, droughts and wildfires on global and regional scales. Accordingly, this talk aims to assemble the latest research progress on rapid changes of the Arctic ocean-sea ice-atmosphere-land system. It will systematically investigate the variability of Arctic multi-sphere systems across distinct regions and seasons, the mechanisms driving their changes, and their internal linkages with global and regional compound extremes of heatwaves, droughts, and wildfires.
