Intense atmospheric vortices and their dynamics
I. I. Mokhov, M. V. Kurganskiy, O. G. Chhetiani
The results of experimental, diagnostic, theoretical and model studies of intense atmospheric vortices are presented. During the last years of research, they were performed at the A.M. Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Russian Science Foundation (grant No. 14-17-00806). An attempt was made for general analysis of the intense atmospheric vortices hierarchy, including circumpolar vortices and atmospheric centers of action of the oceanic and continental scale, extratropical cyclones and anticyclones, including blocking anticyclones, tropical cyclones (hurricanes, typhoons), polar lows ("polar hurricanes"), tornadoes.
The book can be useful to a wide audience, including researchers, graduate and undergraduate students.
